There’s no mistaking Intel’s Core i7-6700K as anything but a phenomenal CPU; it’s exactly that.
Not only is it capable of besting a number of Intel’s higher tier enthusiast/extreme CPUs, but it overclocks like an absolute beast – reaching 5.2 GHz on air overclocking and, now, more than 7 GHz on liquid nitrogen.
The exact frequency achieved, according to KitGuru, was 7007.85 MHz.
The system used to overclock the i7-6700K used 8GB of G.Skill DDR4 as well as Windows XP. As far as the CPU was concerned, three of the four cores were disabled, the multiplier cranked up to 69x and the base clock frequency was set to 101.56 MHz.
You’ve got to admit, it’s an impressive feat. Just don’t except to be picking up your 6700K anytime soon – not with the current price of hardware in SA.
In fact, you’re looking at more than R6,500 for the CPU alone.
