NVIDIA GTX 1080 killer graphics card – release date

The GTX 1080, along with Nvidia’s other Pascal cards the 1070 and 1080TI, is expected see an international release in June.

The new Pascal architecture promises enhanced power efficiency and floating point (FLOPS) performance.

Based on a GP104 core, the GTX 1080 will be Nvidia’s flagship card, using 8GB of GDDR5X to achieve what is speculated to be as much as 384GB/s depending on memory clock over a 256-bit bus.

This should eliminate current graphics bottlenecks and allow for higher-resolution gaming. It will also bring improved performance to the upcoming VR headsets, boasting 120Hz refresh rates at 1080p.

The GTX 1070 will use ordinary GDDR5 memory and a similar core count to the current 980/970 lineup at 1664 CUDA cores, with the same 256-bit bus.

No South African pricing or release date has been announced.
