Samsung has revealed its new UFS memory cards, which are 5 times faster than regular microSD cards.

The Universal Flash Storage memory cards are shaped similarly to a standard microSD card, although they will not be compatible with device that only support microSD.

Samsung’s UFS memory cards will be available in a variety of capacities, including 256GB, 128GB, 64GB and 32GB.

The memory cards are intended for use in high-intensity mobile storage environments, such as high-resolution video cameras and 3D VR devices.

The 256GB UFS memory card will offer sequential read speeds of up to 530 MB/s, five times faster than that of a typical microSD card.

These read speeds rival that of solid state drives, and UFS cards will also offer sequential write speeds of up to 170MB/s – double that of typical microSD cards.

Samsung’s UFS memory cards could see wide application across mobile devices, including high-end smartphones.
