What a gaming Festive Season wish list looks like

The year is coming to a close, and it’s that time to spoil those you love.  Who’re we kidding? Time to spoil ourselves!

Earlier this year we welcomed shoutcaster Kyle “Congo” Wolmarans to the team at ASUS South Africa and, of course, we’d love to know what he has on his Festive Season Wish list.  We dropped him a line and here are his ASUS dream gadgets…

Kyle “Congo” Wolmarans:

“I love to keep my eye out for some festive deals, but this year in the spirit of giving, I’ve decided to share some top picks for this Festive Season and why I need them to up my gaming for 2017.

First off, my new fibre internet should be arriving soon and for those who do not know, fibre without a decent router is like a Ferrari without the engine.  So a capable router is a must-have!

The DSL-AC52U is fantastic since it meets all my needs that may come from my pending fibre, like 4K streaming, multiple downloads and uninterrupted online gaming. Attaching a storage device to the router as a NAS, will allow me to use my phone to access all my movies through the easy-to-use ASUS AiCloud app, even when I’m on the beach.

Makro is running a great sale on the DSL-AC52U for R1999, and I’m thinking about grabbing  the RP-AC52 repeater as well for R1499, just to make sure that my Wi-Fi coverage is boosted to those hard to reach areas in the house.

Holidays mean hours of couch time, family and little cousins coming over, as well as tons of photos being taken that will want to be viewed by Mom and Dad. Want one device to cover all the bases? The VivoPC VM62 is the answer.

I know for a fact that my little cousins get bored easily but with the tons of movies and series I can not only store on the VM62 but also play in 4K, I can keep them occupied for hours on end.

It’s the perfect media centre and home PC in one with the added bonus of keeping everyone entertained while I game. The VivoPC is available from First Shop for R5563, – don’t let your family interfere with your game time!

Next, has to be the ROG Spatha. Earlier this year I got to play around with the Spatha during our review and I’ve wanted one ever since.

The Spatha is great for my current obsession, World of Warcraft, with a multitude of buttons and its option for wired or wireless mode.

The Spatha is an easy grab from Rebel Tech for R2515, a must-have for the countless hours I’m going to waste on World of Warcraft this coming holiday season.

The motherboard is the backbone of the PC – everyone knows that. My next product leaves me with a few mixed feelings though.

It’s arguably one of the best-looking motherboards around but, sadly, it will remain hidden in my PC.

Other than that, the ASUS ROG STRIX X99 Gaming is right at the top of the list this Festive Season, and at a great price from Rebel Tech of R6828.

You can also set your Aura RGB Lighting to a festive theme to rival your neighbour’s holiday lights.

I’ve slowly grown fond of the AMD Radeon, which is why I’m adding the RX480 8G Gaming to the list.

While my X99 might be hidden, my RX480 with Aura RGB Lighting will bring even more life to my PC.

I’m also slowly working towards making my PC VR Ready, and guess what? The RX480 comes VR Ready, so we’re halfway there.

The RX480 is available from Wootware for R5099 – an absolute steal!

To keep my work steady and flowing I like to make use of two monitors. I already have an incredible ASUS Gaming Monitor, so my second screen needs to function to necessary capabilities, for content editing and the like.

Thus, my second last item on the wish list is the ASUS VX238H 23” LED HD monitor.

It looks great, has an incredible 1920×1080, 1ms display and is great for all my design and editing needs.

An added bonus is that it won’t harm my eyes during those long design sessions as it features a Low Blue Light function that greatly reduces the emission of blue light. Treat your eyes for R2,999 from Takealot.com.

My final product is something I’ve wanted for a long time – a large and in-charge mouse pad!

The ASUS Sheath Gaming Mouse Pad is big enough for your keyboard and mouse, offering a smooth mouse glide and optimal space to ensure I get those 30 no-scopes.

The Sheath is available from Wootware for R659, and is a must-have if you want to round out your battle station.

That’s it for my wish list. I hope you all get what you want this season, and as always – happy gaming!”
