The ASUS ROG Strix Magnus is the perfect microphone for gamers

Asus ROG Magnus Header

ASUS high-end ROG Strix Magnus gaming microphone packs impressive audio and recording performance in a small package.

While it boasts gaming accents like customisable RGB lighting, it also sports high-quality audio components that can make a massive difference to gamers and streamers.

Included in the ROG Strix Magnus’ box is the Magnus microphone, a USB cable, protective case, and setup guide.

The protective case housing the microphone is constructed from a rubberised, strong material and is useful for carrying the microphone around without damaging it.

The Magnus microphone sports a unique design which includes numerous lighting zones and stylised volume and recording controls.

Despite the impressive amount of hardware crammed into the device, it takes up a relatively small footprint and features a standard tripod mount.

This means that while you can just place the microphone on your desk and it will do a great job of picking up your voice, you can also set up more directional recording for professional recording.

The device is powered by its USB connection to the computer and features the following ports and controls on its chassis:

  • 3.5mm headphone out
  • 3.5mm aux in
  • USB 3.0 connector for PC
  • USB 2.0 pass-through connector
  • Microphone volume tuner
  • Headphone volume tuner
  • Mute button
  • Lighting mode switch
  • Recording mode slider

Audio Quality and Hardware

Despite its unique looks and small size, the Magnus boasts some truly epic recording hardware.

Three studio-grade condenser capsules can capture sound with extreme clarity and sensitivity, and feature built-in environmental noise cancellation.

The three condenser microphones are masked by a black grill mesh at the top of the device.

The Magnus boasts uni-directional, bi-directional, and omni-directional pickup patterns, and user can switch between cardoid, stereo, and ENC recording modes using the slider.

Cardioid recording mode allows you to record sound from sources directly in front of the microphone, while stereo mode allows you to record from all three microphones to deliver a stereo sound effect.

ENC mode uses noise cancellation to remove background noises such as mouse clicks and keyboard strokes while clearly picking up your voice.

Audio playback through the device’s headphone output is clear, and the clarity and sensitivity of the Magnus microphone is immediately apparent when listening to recordings.

RGB and Features

A really useful feature of the ROG Strix Magnus is the live monitoring via the headphone out jack.

The ability to listen to voice volume and clarity levels while recording is extremely useful for live streamers, shoutcasters, or even content creators.

You can also use the auxiliary port on the microphone to connect an instrument or other audio device and play live music without any distortion.

The device is compatible with Asus Aura RGB lighting and can be synchronised to the same lighting scheme as your other RGB peripherals and components.

The Magnus rests comfortably between the keyboard and screen on desktop setups, and it is small enough that it does not block the screen while gaming.

This is great for live streamers who do not want to resort to offset microphones or mounts descending from the ceiling to get decent voice recordings.

Another advantage of its small form factor and durable carry case is that the microphone can be used by streamers and gamers while travelling without risk of damage or reduction in quality.

The small size of the Asus ROG Strix Magnus and the epic hardware packed inside its chassis make it the perfect microphone for gamers, streamers, and content creators.
