This 8-year old South African girl has created an awesome traffic app

5 December 2016

8-year old Lucinda Coetzee from Belfast in Mpumalanga has come up with her own Android app that informs users about road hazards and closures in real time, reports Fin24.

“It’s called Road Help, says Coetzee. “Say you’re in traffic in Pretoria, it automatically tells you where there’s a roadblock and shows you another route to follow.”

Lucinda is a member of Africa Teen Geeks and is just one of hundreds of young South Africans who are turning to coding as a hobby.

She, the Africa Teen Geeks team, and thousands much older than her will be taking part in “The Hour of Code” which takes place in more than 180 countries around the world from 5-11 December.

At least 92 of the 120 000 events expected events will take place in South Africa, offering one-hour coding tutorials in about 45 languages, with no experience or prior knowledge of programming required.
