Gamer spends over $1,000,000 on “free-to-play” mobile game

13 December 2016

A 45-year old California-based man has admitted to spending an estimated $1 million on mobile title Game of War: Fire Age, reports Android Authority.

The man was able to afford the massive amount of microtransactions after embezzling over $5 million from his heavy-equipment company ‘Holt California’ between May 2008 to March 2015.

He spent the rest of the embezzled money on plastic surgery and American Football season tickets.

He’s not the only one dropping big money however, according to a recent report from VentureBeat, Game of War “draws an average of $549.69 per paying user [per year].

“That’s more than any other mobile game, and that’s enough to make the game one of the top-grossing apps in the $34.8 billion gaming business on iOS and Android.”

The game currently offers options to purchase in-game consumable from between $1.99 to $399.99 per item, with no limit on how much can be spent.

Not really that uncommon. Most common mobile games have several $100k+ users. A $1m user happens every now and then.
