Massive mobile growth for Telkom

Telkom latest financial results show that its mobile division saw strong growth.

Mobile service revenue was up 43.2% to almost R2.3 billion, thanks to strong subscriber growth and an increase in the average revenue per user.

Telkom said it increased its active mobile subscriber base by 35.9% to 4,364,508 over the past year, while the number of mobile broadband subscribers went up by 25.2%.

“The strong mobile growth which boosted the group’s performance was underpinned by an expansion of our network, distribution, and the launch of innovative products which were well received by our customers,” said Telkom.

Launched as 8.ta in October 2010, Telkom’s mobile division has undergone several transformations over the past seven years.

Although it is dwarfed by Vodacom, MTN, and Cell C, Telkom has achieved impressive growth in the competitive mobile market – shown by the graphs below.
