Firaxis has revealed that XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be making its way to iOS.
Announced during the developer’s panel at PAX East in Boston, the alien-killing strategy game will arrive on iPad and iPhone, and Firaxis is excited about the jump.
“It was something we were really excited to do,” said Jake Solomon, XCOM lead designer at Firaxis. “We weren’t sure if it was technically possible, but with the Unreal Engine it made it easy to port over.”
Solomon explained that 2K’s China studio has been hard at work on the iOS port, even before Enemy Unknown released for PC and consoles.
“It’s tough to transition a lot of core games to the iPad, because of the touch interface,” Solomon said. “But XCOM works beautifully because the keyboard and mouse interface works so well.”
Firaxis said that the iOS version will be available in the US Summer, so expect it to arrive within the second quarter.
