Nintendo marketer loses job following hate campaign

Alison Rapp announced that she had been officially dismissed as a Nintendo employee last night, following a continuing online campaign aimed at her dismissal.

The campaign centered around Rapp’s decision to remove a homoerotic scene in the recent Fire Emblem: Fates and a removal of a “breast customisation slider” in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

An official statement provided by Nintendo noted that the dismissal was not based on the hate campaign against Rapp but that she had violated internal company policy by undertaking a second job:

“Alison Rapp was terminated due to violation of an internal company policy involving holding a second job in conflict with Nintendo’s corporate culture,” the company declared. “Though Ms. Rapp’s termination follows her being the subject of criticism from certain groups via social media several weeks ago, the two are absolutely not related.

“Nintendo is a company committed to fostering inclusion and diversity in both our company and the broader video game industry and we firmly reject the harassment of individuals based on gender, race or personal beliefs. We wish Ms. Rapp well in her future endeavors.”

Rapp responded to Nintendo’s statement by declaring that to her knowledge, moonlighting was common practice and actually encouraged by Nintendo.

Rapp announced her dismissal through a series of tweets last night:

Today, the decision was made: I am no longer a good, safe representative of Nintendo, and my employment has been terminated.
