As expected, the one and only Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree has surpassed five million units sold in only three days since it released last week on 21 June.
Prior to this, it had been reported that the base game had surpassed 25 million units sold in total, so this announcement should come as no surprise.
The notable sales achievement also resulted in a press release from Bandai Namco, where they noted how humbled they were for the support.
“We are humbled to announce that Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, the action RPG title from Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware, Inc., has reached 5 million units sold worldwide within three days of its release. This milestone is the result of the tremendous support from fans all over the world, to whom we express our heartfelt gratitude,” the announcement read.
However, while the DLC has been selling very well it has also been the subject of many negative reviews and on release sat at a Mixed score on Steam.
This was based primarily on concerns over the DLC’s performance, where many players reported experiencing frequent stuttering, and its difficulty, which some players have been struggling with – to the point that Bandai Namco released an update with advice on how to make your character stronger.
Both concerns have been addressed in a recent patch which noted that an error in settings may have been causing the stuttering and provided balance reworks to make player characters a little stronger while in the DLC area.
While its difficult to tell if these measures actually solved the concerns, Shadow of the Erdtree has risen to a 70% Mostly Positive review score on Steam since then.
Most likely this score will continue to rise in the coming weeks as FromSoftware continues to patch the DLC’s rough areas and new players jump in.
