21 May 2014

Tetris is turning 30 in 2014, and to celebrate fans have been asked to plan and register for an event in their respective cities. The 10 largest scheduled meets will receive a themed celebration kit including t-shirts, an autographed copy of Jenga Tetris signed by the creator of Tetris, Alexey Pajitnov, and other Tetris branded items.

Interested players can register to take part in the game’s meetup.com page, and there is good news – Joburg is one of the 11 anniversary communities where Tetris fans can meet.

You have until 28 May 2014 to sign up, so get going.

Tetris was designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov, who released the game throughout the USSR in 1984. The game launched on the Elektronika 60, a terminal computer developed in the Soviet Union, before eventually coming to IBM PC systems, arcades, Game Boy and nearly every other games platform since. The title has since sold over 170 million copies, both digital and physical.
