New Pokemon GO glitch lets you permanently own any gym

16 August 2016

Pokemon GO players have found a way to permanently beat any gym in the game, reports Eurogamer.

“A gym with an egg placed in it instead of a Pokémon cannot be fought or won back.

Eggs are used for hatching Pokémon and therefore have no character data or stats. It is only upon being hatched that they actually reveal the Pokémon inside.”

This means anyone playing nearby can’t change the gym’s allegiance or gain any XP from battling.

The exploit follows just 24 hours after Niantic began issuing permanent bans to players for a number of Terms of Service violations, including GPS spoofing and other software techniques aimed at manipulating the base game.
