Here are the Pokémon that are hardest to catch in Pokémon Go

While Pokémon Go has not officially launched in South Africa, that hasn’t stopped people from downloading and playing the game here.

Many have noticed that some Pokémon are just more difficult to catch than others.

Pokémon Go fans have gone through the game’s code, and analysed the data being sent back and forth between the server and client, to discover which Pokémon have the lowest chance of being caught.

There are 5 Pokémon with a 0% base capture rate. These are Legendary Pokémon which have not appeared in the game yet, though Niantic has hinted that they will make an appearance during special events.

The 5 Legendary Pokémon are: Articuno, Mew, Mewtwo, Moltres, and Zapdos.

Of the Pokémon you can actually catch, the following 14 have the lowest base capture rates.


Blastoise — 4% base catch rate


Charizard — 4% base catch rate


Dragonite — 4% base catch rate


Venusaur — 4% base catch rate


Arcanine — 8% base catch rate


Charmeleon — 8% base catch rate


Clefable — 8% base catch rate


Dragonair — 8% base catch rate


Gengar — 8% base catch rate


Gyarados — 8% base catch rate


Ivysaur — 8% base catch rate


Ninetales — 8% base catch rate


Raichu — 8% base catch rate


Wartortle — 8% base catch rate
