It turns out Mario is much younger than you think.
Despite the great, bushy moustache, gamers learnt that the Italian plumber is only 24 years old after a recently re-released interview with creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
“I think it was fortuitous that we didn’t put any restrictions on Mario as a character,” Miyamoto told Nintendo Online Monthly.
“Normally when you create a character and present him to the world, all the details get filled in: what’s his favorite color? What kind of food does he like to eat?”
“But with Mario, aside from the fact that he’s about 24-25 years old, we didn’t define anything else.”
Of course, the Internet overreacted in a big way:

@HonorableThief Lies, Mario is like 45 at the youngest, Lou Albano was like 55 when he played him. There is no way Mario is younger than me.
