Nintendo has unveiled its next-gen gaming console, the Switch.

The company released a short preview video of the console which showed off the console and its wide variety of features.

Previously code-named the NX, the Nintendo Switch is a hybrid gaming console that can be used both as a handheld gaming platform and a traditional console connected to a television.

The Nintendo Switch Dock connects the system to the TV and lets you play like you would using a traditional console. By lifting the console from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode.

The detachable Joy-Con controllers can fit onto the sides of the console to use the device as a handheld, or they can slot into a special controller for couch gaming. The controllers can even be used separately for local multiplayer.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America.

“It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

The Nintendo Switch is expected to launch in March 2017.
