A recent update to the Pokémon Go app has revealed that the second generation of Pokémon may soon be on its way to the game.

The Silph Road reported 100 new Pokémon and 52 new Pokémon families are referenced in the game’s code, from Pokédex #152 (Chikorita) to #251 (Celebi).

Pokémon such as Ho-Oh and Lugia are included in the update.

Niantic has not officially revealed the second generation, and the report notes that no moves have been assigned to the new species of Pokémon.

This means that a server and client update will have to happen before the second generation of Pokémon are launched in Pokémon Go.

As a result, Silph Road speculated that it could be weeks or months before generation 2 appears in-game.
