Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said that gamers will need an internet connection to play Super Mario Run.
Speaking in an interview with Mashable, Miyamoto explained the design choice.
“We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection with all three of the [Super Mario Run] modes to keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure,” said Miyamoto.
“But actually, the security element is one of the reasons that we decided to go with iPhone and iOS first.”
The game’s three modes apparently require an internet connection to communicate and function effectively, as well as save data on the network.
Miyamoto also said this always-online requirement has been built into the software as an ant-piracy measure.
This means that you will not be able to play Super Mario Run anywhere without a Wi-Fi or data connection.
