Nintendo fails to grab Wii U domain

Nintendo has failed to acquire the WiiU.com domain after battling with the holder since February 2013.

For those who may not know, Nintendo has been in a legal battle with the owner of WiiU.com, which just links to a number of related and unrelated Wii U links.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation denied Nintendo’s claims that the original owner was “cybersquatting” on the domain.

The domain, which was registered in 2004, was actually up for sale via an auction earlier in the year, where Nintendo could have bought it. It’s unclear why Nintendo didn’t, but a few days after the auction, the first complaint was filed.
