The best places to play Pokemon GO in South Africa

Pokemon GO is currently taking the world by storm, with news that the app has already eclipsed Twitter.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a reliable online source that points out the best places to find gyms, Pokemon and shops just yet.

Following reports that Pokemon GO was using data from Niantic’s previous title, Ingress, we decided to cross-reference that game’s data with Pokemon GO in order to determine the “Poke-hotspots” in South Africa.

You can check where the hotspots in your personal are on the official Ingress site (here) by noting the following:

  • Ingress Portals were mostly converted to PokeStops and Gyms.
  • Pokemon Spawn points are linked to XM generation in Ingress.

Alternatively, if you are looking for specific Pokemon you should check out Pokemapper. The amount of pokemon is pretty sparse at the moment, but expect the numbers to increase when the game becomes officially available in South Africa.

These are some of the busiest areas that we noted:

The V&A Waterfront
