Niantic has stated that it will combat the problem of gym poaching in Pokemon GO, GameRant reports.

Despite addressing major concerns and hinting at upcoming features during the Pokemon GO panel at Comic-Con, Niantic CEO John Hanke did not address the problem of gym poaching.

Pokemon GO gym poachers wait until somebody has defeated the current gym leader and then quickly claim the gym before the player who actually defeated the previous gym leader can do so.

This is possible due to the gym becoming neutral and freely-claimable after the leader is defeated, rather than automatically being taken over by the victorious player.

Gym poaching has become a major issue in Pokemon GO, with many players unable to claim a gym in time, despite defeating the previous owner themselves.

John Hanke has promised to address the issue, which could be resolved by simply offering the victorious player the opportunity to clam the gym before automatically making it neutral.
