Why there are no South African Servers for Battlefield 1 yet

The Battlefield 1 Open Beta kicked off recently, allowing gamers to enjoy the upcoming title free on PC and console.

South Africans are finding it difficult to enjoy the game however, as there are currently no local servers for the game – forcing local players to play on European servers.

MyGaming has contacted various South African server hosts such as GameServers, Mweb, Telkom and Internet Solutions to find out if and when local gamers can expect to get South African servers.

IS Gaming’s Davin Hansen had no information regarding official Battlefield 1 servers, adding that EA is difficult to contact regarding South African servers:

“I am not sure how EA is going to be managing these servers. EA is notoriously difficult to contact regarding servers. If they approach us, we are always willing to host servers for them.”

Hansen also stated that although no information may currently be available regarding South African servers for Battlefield 1, he is sure that South Africans will eventually have servers to play on.

Waiting for EA

It seems that nobody knows when we will be getting local servers for Battlefield 1, with Mweb and Telkom also stating that they have not received any word from EA regarding server hosting.

“We are aware of how popular Battlefield 1 is and based on this we have applied to the content owners to host the server locally. We are awaiting their revert,” said Telkom.

“We will keep the public informed of any developments in this regard.”

While we will likely get South African servers eventually, it may be a while before EA contacts South African companies regarding local server hosting.

MyGaming reached out to Electronic Arts for comment, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.

To have not launched with servers in other countries when the entire game is really built around multiplayer, seems a bit on the stupid side. I just bought this and never thought for one second there would be no SA servers. Absolutely insane, dont event want this game now, just no point. Thanks Dice, you suck.
