Some of the best story-based games rely heavily on cutscenes to create memorable moments and dramatic events.
While some cutscenes can cut into the pacing of the game, others can add tremendous amounts of value to the title, whether its an opening cinematic or simply an important dialogue.
Check out these five epic and memorable cutscenes from popular video games:
Portal – Still Alive
The ending cutscene to the first Portal game featured an enthralling sense of humour and one of the best songs ever written for a video game.
If you want to skip straight to the song, it begins at the 2:00 mark.
World of WarCraft – Opening Cinematic
Blizzard is known for its high-quality cinematics, and the original intro cinematic for World of Warcraft is no exception.
The clip does a fantastic job of conveying the tone and details exhibited by each of the world’s races.
Witcher 3 – Battle For Kaer Morhen
The Witcher 3 is full of great cutscenes filled with strong characters, dialogue and action.
Below is a montage of the cutscenes which make up the battle for Kaer Morhen, one of the most action-packed sequences in the game.
Fallout 3 – Megaton Explosion
One of the most memorable moments in Fallout 3 was when you were asked to blow up an entire town by detonating the dormant nuclear bomb it was built around.
While you could always foil the plan to destroy the helpless town, watching that bomb detonate from miles away is one of the most memorable moments in gaming.
Bioshock Infinite – Ascension
Bioshock Infinite was praised as a fantastic game, with startlingly beautiful visuals and a captivating soundtrack.
The very beginning of the game sees you ascend to Columbia in one of the most dramatic cutscenes which takes full advantage of the game’s great visuals.
