In the wake of a leaked (and unstable) beta build of Crysis 2 in February, dev Crytek is looking into DRM schemes for future releases.
The spirit and morale of the team were super-super-high and we had gotten some really good news not even 24 hours before.
And then, the next thing you know, there’s a leak going out and it hit us completely in every direction and everyone in the studio was really depressed by this,” executive producer Nathan Camarillo told GameShark. “The whole mood of the studio changed. Everyone went from being cooperative and excited to isolated and depressed. It took the wind out of everybody.”
Consequences, it seems, will never be the same.
“I know there’s a lot of negative feelings toward DRM,” he says. “But, I mean, what are we supposed to do? The actions of a few are causing maybe a mild inconvenience for others. If I’m playing a game and it has DRM on it, do I notice? Not really. I just know that there’s something going on, but doesn’t really enhance (sic) my play experience. So, it’s something that we’ll have to look at in the future.”
It’s not yet known whether the final version of Crysis 2 will launch on PC with any DRM included.
