Battlefield 1 review roundup – The best singleplayer Battlefield yet

While Battlefield 1 only officially launches on 21 October, reviews of the much-anticipated have started to flood in.

The game is currently sitting on an OpenCritic score of 86% across all three platforms.

See what other gaming outlets are saying about Battlefield 1 below:

Gamespot – 9/10

With Battlefield 1, EA and DICE have proven the viability of World War 1 as a time period worth revisiting in first-person shooters.

It brings into focus countries and nationalities that do not exist today while also shedding light on how the outcome of that war has shaped our lives.

Polygon – 9/10

Small issues aside, Battlefield 1 marks an impressive, risk-taking reinvention for the series.

That the multiplayer is as good and distinctive as it is is less surprising than a campaign that takes a difficult setting and navigates it with skill and invention. The end result is a shooter than succeeded far beyond my expectations, and one that exists as the best, most complete Battlefield package since 2010.

Forbes – 8/10

No one makes more beautiful shooters than DICE, but their gameplay still leaves something to be desired, despite what appeared to be a total refresh with the WWI setting Fans of the series may look past these faults or even embrace them, but some of them are hard to get past, and can define the entire experience.

The Telegraph – 4/5

Usually I would not recommend a Battlefield game on the strength of its single-player, but Battlefield 1’s War Stories have toppled this tradition like a well-placed mortar to a windmill.

As for multiplayer, you’ll have to wait a little longer for the Telegraph verdict, as I need more time with it before settling on a score.

Because no matter how great the single-player is, Battlefield 1 will live or die based on the strength of its online modes

EGM – 8/10

A World War I setting is novel indeed, but this installment in the franchise is fundamentally the Battlefield game we have played before—and returning players may fall into a familiar groove quicker than expected.

This isn’t necessarily bad for those in love with Battlefield, however, and while the setting may be the most significant shift, those invested in the series will find Battlefield 1 as another terrific reason to load up.
