Team Liquid has announced the creation of a professional Civilization VI team along with its plans to push the game as a major eSport.
In a post on the organisation’s blog, co-CEO Steve “LiQuiD112” Arhancet said that Civilization IV allowed him to become fully involved in eSports as a full-time career.
“Civilization provides the perfect platform for players to showcase their gaming intellect and we feel that Firaxis is on the cusp of bringing the franchise to a competitive esports level,” said Arhancet.
“It is inevitable that Civilization will take its place alongside the top esports in the world.”
Team Liquid has hired MrGameTheory, a former world champion Civilization player, to head up the organisation’s Civilization VI eSports team.
MrGameTheory is known as the “Legend” of the Civilization community.
The organisation will also be hosting a Civilization VI competitive tournament in the near future.
