The highly-anticipated Dishonored 2 launched this past weekend, and reviews for the game have begun rolling in.

Arkane Studios’ stealth assassination game has been generally well-received, with critics praising its varied gameplay and scale.

Dishonored 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Here’s what critics had to say about Dishonored 2:

GameSpot – 8/10

“Dishonored’s brand of creative stealth-action mayhem returns with excellent new weapons, powers, and gameplay options that overshadow a few late-game letdowns.”

IGN – 9.3/10

“With two unique sets of skills to play with across 10 themed chapters that keep things interesting and a gorgeous, evocative world that feels alive, Dishonored 2 is a remarkable experience.

Though I would have liked a little bit more originality in its central story, which again revolves around a usurper to the throne.

It’s the stories that I’ve created on my own using its many creativity-enabling powers that I’ll remember, every graceful, fumbling, and hilarious one of them, and I’m compelled to create many more in the months to come.”.

Attack of the Fanboy 5/5

“Trumping the first in nearly every way, Dishonored 2 is at the very top of the list of “must play” first-person action games in 2016. Causing bloody chaos or sticking to the shadows, Arkane gives players the tools to run wild in this new world.

This brand of gameplay combined with a beautiful presentation and plenty of customization leads to fun playthroughs of Dishonored 2 whether its your first time or your fifth.”

GamesRadar – 4.5/5

“It can’t match its predecessor in terms of sheer originality, but Dishonored 2’s setting, stealth, swordplay, and superpowers are all superb.”

Game Revolution – 4.5/5

“Dishonored 2 will successfully function for both fans of the series and those who pick it up for the first time.

With a robust side-quest system, you’ll find the game has much to discover. That, and the ability to play the game how you want and rewarding you for taking a more challenging course, make Dishonored 2 a rousing success.

This game isn’t hard to pick up and play, but it will be almost impossible to put down.”

GearNuke – 9.5/10

“Dishonored 2 is a prime example of how to do a sequel right. Everything that made its predecessor amazing is here, and it’s better than ever before. If you liked the original, you’re sure to love this one.”

Twinfinite – 4.5/5

“Dishonored 2 is the bigger, badder, and bolder version of the original game, thanks to its densely packed world and wonderfully enjoyable mechanics.

Even though the experience only has nine main missions, the amount of replayability and exploration offered allows this title to always feel exciting.”

And yet it only gets 4.5/10??? Typo maybe?

Currently busy with my second playthrough. Although a worthy successor, I still felt the game a bit lacking, mostly in the assassination department. The main assassinations were few and stretched out by “travelling to” sections (admittedly these are where the side missions are). Perhaps the fact that I’ve played the GOTY edition of the first with all the DLC spoilt me. Here’s hoping the DLC will come soon and expand the world even more!
