Bethesda is recreating Fallout 4 in VR

Bethesda is working on recreating the world of Fallout 4 in virtual reality, for use with headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Speaking in an interview with Glixel, Todd Howard from Bethesda talked about the future of games like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout and the implementation of virtual reality.

Howard said Bethesda was excited about recreating Fallout 4 in VR, and is already actively working on the project.

“We’re trying the VR thing now. We’ll see where it heads,” said Howard.

“The core experience, meaning you put on the headset and you’re standing in the world of Fallout and can go where you want, just that little bit is every bit as cool as you hope it would be.

“Once we did that, we were like, “OK, we gotta see where this goes.”

The developer is not worried about the relatively small VR market, and is focussed more on making something unique as opposed to profitable.

“We’re not so worried about how many we’re going to sell or what the market is. That will all sort itself out.”

“We have an opportunity to make something really unique. We’d rather do that than make some other tiny experience.”
