Controversy as Game Awards removes two nominated games

22 November 2016

Another Metroid 2 Remake and Pokemon Uranium have both been quietly removed from the Game Awards’ “Best Fan Creation” category.

No official announcement was made from Award organisers regarding the removal, leaving Brutal Doom 64 and Enderal: The Shards of Order the only two games left in the category.

It’s worth noting that Metroid and Pokemon are both Nintendo properties, a fact which may be related to the removal.

The Game Awards’ “Rules & Voting” section specifically provides that “Game publishers and developers have no involvement in the selection of nominees or winners”.

The Game Awards take place on 1 December at 18:00 SAST.
