According to new statistics released by SteamSpy, over 38% off all the games in Steam’s library were released in 2016.
As at the time of writing, that equates to over 4,207 games released in 2016, up from 2964 in 2015 and just 565 in 2013.
The uptick has been cause primarily by initiatives like Greenlight which makes publishing games much easier for indie developers.
It could also point to an increasingly open level of control via Steam admins as they allow “anything and everything” onto the service.
A less cynical gamer could also point to this being proof of increased accessibility to game development and publishing.
