Civilization VI has quickly become my new favourite 4X strategy game, despite it’s slightly buggy launch.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is a turn-based strategy game which sees you grow your chosen civilization from one settler into a sprawling empire, while competing with other civilizations in the arenas of diplomacy, warfare, religion, culture, and science.

The game is the latest instalment in the Sid Meier’s Civilization series, which all feature the same core gameplay with various progressive changes and adaptions for unique settings.

The Civilization series is notorious for its “One More Turn” addictive gameplay, causing gamers to lose countless hours in front of their computer screens.

In my review earlier this year, I made the bold statement that it could be the best Civilization game yet, thanks to its introduction of fresh new features and retention of classic mechanics.

Since it’s launch, it has grown on me even more, and the new diplomacy system has been greatly improved now that it has had some of its worst bugs ironed out.

Civilization VI is accessible to long-time Civ fanatics and newcomers to the 4X strategy genre alike, and its biggest changes aim to improve the flawed parts of the previous games while keeping the beloved Civ formula.

Every game of Civilization VI is different, and the power and growth of your empire depends heavily on how you use the terrain around your cities and how you react to your immediate neighbours.

The multiplayer is relatively balanced (with a few notable exceptions), and the new systems such as religious warfare, cassus belli, and unit stacking allow for more complex player interaction and exciting competitive gameplay.

If you’re looking for a new strategy game to keep you busy this holiday season, Civilization VI is a must-have, especially if you can get it on sale.
