Steam has announced that it will officially add sales tax to game prices in South Africa, according to a report.

According to Gamespot, Valve sent an email to Steam partners stating it will add region-appropriate sales tax to all purchases.

These changes will take effect from March 2017 in South Africa, with 14% VAT added.

Due to the change, the overall price of games on Steam may increase in March.

Steam users in South Africa will not pay more than the total price displayed on the storefront.

Previously, VAT was not denoted separately on the checkout screen, but the message “VAT included in all prices where applicable” was displayed on purchase screens.
