Bin Laden’s compound now available as a free Counter-Strike map

9 May 2011

So in the weekend’s least surprising news then, some modder has recreated Osama Bin Laden’s Abbattobad compound as a free, downloadable Counter-Strike map using the Source SDK (just with more shipping containers, crates, and sandbags, perhaps). You stay classy, internet.

Now you can realise your wildest Operation Neptune Spear spec ops fantasies in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Besides, who needs to see photographic evidence of Bin Laden’s corpse when you can take a screenshot of yourself teabagging some dead noob and post it on reddit instead?

The map’s creator, Fletch, writes that it might be used “as a base for a bomb or hostage map at a later stage”, but for the moment it’s just a regular, general purpose multiplayer venue for shooting bad guys and complaining about unbalanced weapons and spawn camping. Just like the real thing.

You can download the fy_abbattobad map over on GameBanana.

And now we just wait around for the inevitable Sims 3 version, because you know it’s going to happen. Who doesn’t want to see Osama Bin Laden making grilled cheese sammiches and going wee-wee in the pool? Exactly.
