Fable III on PC “has never looked more beautiful”

17 May 2011

Lionhead’s PC dev squad has looked at its Fable III project, and seen that it is good. Well, it’s a lot sexier than its Xbox 360 version, anyway.

“Because our artists originally authored their assets at such a high quality, removing the limits that the Xbox 360 imposed upon us immediately made the game look better,” lead engine coder Don Williamson tells Beefjack.

“The main benefit to a PC release is to be able to see the world of Albion realised at such a high resolution,” adds senior designer Mike West. “We have some mighty PCs in the office and along with the fantastic 3D mode, Fable has never looked more beautiful which the artists love.”

Williamson goes in to explain the specifics in High Technolish, describing “tens of thousands of occlusion queries”, “histogram evaluation”, “depth buffer as a texture making depth-of-field and crepuscular rays”, and other esoteric mysteries.

Fable III for PC launches Stateside today, and here on Friday.
