In a developer update video released yesterday, Overwatch game director Aaron Keller announced that Overwatch 2’s PvP beta test registrations are officially open.
PC players can sign up for the beta test by going to PlayOverwatch.com and requesting access for a chance to be part of the testing, which will start in late April.
According to the official Overwatch blog, the beta test will include the following:
- 5v5
- New Hero: Sojourn
- New Maps
- New Mode: Push
- Hero Reworks
- New Ping System
This won’t be the only Overwatch 2 beta test either, as Blizzard plans to increase the number of players who have access to upcoming beta phases after this initial test.
The development team has stated that its goal for the first beta test “is to test our new features, content, and systems before we shift to stress-testing the servers with a wider player base in future Beta tests.”
These upcoming closed beta tests are part of the Overwatch team’s change in the release strategy for Overwatch 2.
The team has now decided to decouple the PvP and PvE experiences so that players will get access to the PvP sooner, while Blizzard ensures the PvE aspect is polished before release.
