Despite having first released in 1999, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is getting a Steam DLC pack on 28 April.
The DLC pack is called the Dynasties of India, and rather than a small content patch as one would expect with such an old game, it adds a slew of new features to the game.
This includes three new playable civilisations and three new full campaigns, game balance fixes, and a rework of the current Indian civilisation. This rework will be available to all players.
Civilisations
Bengalis – A jungle and river people that favour elephant armies and unique chariot units called Ratha.
Dravidians – A civilisation that focuses on trade routes and advanced metallurgy, thus ensuring dominance at sea. This faction’s unique units are the Urumi Swordsman, a warrior wielding a scathing flexible sword, and the Thirisadai, a unique military vessel.
Gurjaras – A plain based civilisation that uses diverse armies of warriors. The Gurjaras’ unique units are the Shrivamsha Rider, a speedy cavalry unit, and the Chakram Thrower, an infantry unit that unleashes volleys of deadly metal discs.
Campaigns
Babur – A campaign that takes place after the death of Tamerlane during the struggle of his descendants in Transoxiana and Persia. The youngest of these fighters is Babur, known as ‘the Tiger’, who dreams of one day restoring the empire. However, the sudden invasion of horsemen from the northern steppes will change everything. You will play this campaign as the Tatars and Hindustanis. The Hindustanis will be available to all players, even those without the DLC, as it is a rework of the old Indian Civilisation.
Rajendra – Rajendra Chola fears the advent of corruption as he navigates the politics of Southern India and expands his empire. In this campaign, you will play as the Dravidians.
Devapala – Devapala, guided by the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism, rules a rich and vibrant empire. However, dangerous threats advance on his realm, and the Emperor, as a result, finds it increasingly difficult to balance his morals with politics. In this campaign, you play as the Bengalis.
Although it is an old game, Age of Empires 2 is still worth your time – particularly with this new DLC bringing a lot of new content to players.
