Ubisoft has announced that its Montréal studio in Canada is taking over the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake’s development.
The remake was originally in development at Ubisoft’s India-based Mumbai and Pune studios.
Initially slated for a March 2021 release, the Prince of Persia remake has been plagued by pandemic-related difficulties, which led to Ubisoft postponing its launch indefinitely.
This new announcement likely means even more delays for the title, as the remake isn’t only a reskin but a whole new project built in Ubisoft Montréal’s Anvil game engine.
The games developed using Anvil include the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise, For Honor, and Immortals Fenyx Rising.
According to the announcement, the Ubisoft Montréal team will “take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver the best experience for this remake.”
Ubisoft has given no further details regarding a release window, and the new development team will be given all the time it needs to deliver the remake to eager fans “when it’s ready”.
