The best games to play when you’re ill

When you’re sick, you don’t feel like doing anything too taxing on the brain or reflexes.

And if you’re like me, that rules out many of the currently available games – like Elden Ring or Horizon Forbidden West.

You can play all the games we’ve listed below at your own pace without worrying about reaction times or deep thinking.

Divinity Original Sin 2

You wouldn’t think such an intense RPG would be on this list, but as it turns out, the second game in the Original Sin series from Larian Studios is pretty easy to play.

Its turn-based combat system with your party of four, though at times complicated, allows you to tackle combat at your own pace.

Whether that’s a few moves between blowing your nose or a marathon after taking your medication is your choice.

If you’re ill for a while, then the sprawling story and excellent characters of Divinity Original Sin 2 are a perfect choice.

Journey and Abzu

Although developed by different studios, Journey and Abzu are games created with the same general format.

They are titles with no combat or significant mechanics that require intense reaction times, but are intended to provide a mesmerising experience.

Between enchanting visuals, beautiful music and simplistic but still engaging stories, these two titles are perfect for relaxing with.

These are good choices if you are only sick for a day or two, given their short length.

Endless Space 2

If you’d prefer to command an empire from the comfort of your sickbed, then Endless Space 2 is an excellent option.

Unlike titles such as Total War games, you won’t have to exert yourself too much, even during battles.

As you only select formations, you can sit back and watch your fleets battle with your enemies in a cinematic display of military power.

A turn-based experience, Endless Space 2 offers the perfect sandbox experience where you can focus on a story or play for the sake of playing.

The Banner Saga

The Banner Saga is a trilogy of games that offers an experience somewhere between the artistic Journey and Abzu, and the story and gameplay of Divinity Original Sin 2.

With its beautiful art style, variable difficulty, and intriguing story, The Banner Saga is as engrossing as it is easy

This makes it the perfect choice if you want a story and an exciting experience but would prefer not to go through a more involved RPG.
