Square Enix’s fantasy RPG has once again been delayed – this time to 24 January 2023.
Forspoken was initially slated to release on 24 May this year but was delayed to 11 October 2022.
In a Tweet yesterday, the Forspoken team and Luminous Productions revealed the delay to next year and explained the choice was strategic to allow for further polishing.

The announcement indicated that the game’s development is in its final stages, and the focus is now on ensuring the game is polished.
While this is preferable to releasing a half-baked product, it is also possible this delay was to avoid competing with major releases like Overwatch 2, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, God of War Ragnarok, and Hogwarts Legacy.
Forspoken follows the adventures of Frey, a young New Yorker transported to a dangerous fantasy world by unknown forces, as she struggles to find a way home.
The gameplay of Forspoken will feature Frey using various combinations of spells to dismantle enemies in impressive displays of elemental power while exploring the open world of Athia.
Forspoken will release on PS5 and PC.
