Huge update on Baldur’s Gate 3 mod support

26 February 2024

Larian Studios has confirmed that it is working on cross-platform mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3, and it expects this to release later this year.

This update comes from Larian Director of Publishing Michael Douse, who said that players will receive a formal update about what mod support will look like very soon.

He then explained that while a mod support system already exists internally, it still needs work and testing before it is ready to release to the public.

To this end, Larian Studio’s community teams will begin working with the Baldur’s Gate 3 modding community ahead of the tool’s launch later this year.

Larian Studios provided further information on the status of mod support on its official Discord Server.

Community managers said they “know it sucks” when updates break mods and that they want the very best for their players.

This includes a pipeline that lets mod authors release mods across different platforms, as well as support for things like mod classes, UI, customisation, spells, and certain assets and game mechanics.

“Together with the platform holders, we are working on making this a reality, and are forming a team to support mod curation,” said Larian Studios.

The community team also said the groundwork for modding support will begin in the next big patch.
