Portal 2 map contest winners revealed

29 June 2011

PC Portal modding community Thinking with Portals (not to be confused with Valve’s official Portal two website ThinkWithPortals.com) has wrapped up their Summer Mapping Initiative and selected 25 community developed singleplayer and co-op maps for download. Valve was involved in coordinating the contest.

The top 25 maps can be viewed here. The top three maps available for download are listed below.

Patent Pending 1.1 (single player)

A 30-minute level of intermediate difficulty with four chambers set in the destroyed Aperture Science facilities. Some puzzle elements include hard light surfaces, discouragement beams, aerial faith plates, and excursion funnels.

Infinifling 2.5 (single player)

Infinifling puts the player directly into a chamber filled with redirections (we had to have some) and mechanics built on prevailing mid-air portaling techniques, though with less difficulty and more fun.

Edifice (single player)

A medium-hard, fairly long map in the destroyed chamber style.

Console gamers will have to hang on for the first and free Portal 2 DLC before they can get a taste of the new maps. The DLC is of course also coming to PC. It will include, according to Valve, “new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more.”
