Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) has launched around the universe to become the biggest entertainment title since the big bang. It also simultaneously became the most hated thing in the universe if the user-score Meta-bombing is anything to go by (and it probably isn’t).
Meanwhile, local gaming service providers have all come out in support of the title, hosting dedicated servers for the game.
It was around this time that we learned the implications of the dedicated server system for MW3 – no soldier profile levelling up, but highly customisable server-side game modes.
We caught up with iGame Online Manager Jonathan Smit, who has shared their plans for MW3 action on the iGame servers.
“With the lack of ranked dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 3, iGame has been focused on providing the community with Mod servers that cater to the need for better balance or for modified game play,” said Smit.
The flagship Mod for iGame is CompMod, which is based on ProMod setting (a stalwart CoD 4 mod).
“CompMod is specifically aimed at competitive game play and the community of new players that wish to start out in the competitive arena,” explained Smit.
“As a co-operative effort between iGame, the community of www.codmw3.co.za and the broader community of Modern Warfare 3 players, CompMod has already undergone a number of changes from its original setup.”
“We see this as a collaborative effort between ourselves and the community and welcome feedback, suggestions and comments via our forum,” said Smit.
“In an ongoing effort to improve the Mod, iGame will be hosting a number of 20 player testing events, the first of which will take place on Thursday 17 November. We are keeping the testing groups small at this stage to ensure that feedback is not lost in the noise of larger testing groups,” continued Smit.
The community is encouraged to take part in this effort by testing the servers and by joining in the discussions on the iGame forum.
“We’d like to thank everyone who has participated in testing thus far with a special mention going to the #NoN players who are running the CompMod Pickup servers and who play an invaluable role in setup and configuration of CompMod,” concluded Smit.
