Update: Razer Blade might come to South Africa

28 March 2012

Update: Razer PR got back to us with an official response regarding the Blade, which appears below:

Although the Razer Blade is currently not available for purchase in many regions, Razer is currently working hard to have the Blade available worldwide at some point in time. Razer will not be able to sample Blades for review at the moment and will release a press release when available.

Razer’s plan to “save PC gaming” with the thin, powerful and feature rich Razer Blade gaming laptop doesn’t include South Africa, with the word being we will never get the device.

This is according to a spokesperson for Razer.

The Razer Blade is a low profile 17-inch gaming laptop, featuring an Intel Core i7 2640M processor, 8GB of RAM, a full HD display, an Nvidia GT555 graphics card, and a 256GB Plextor solid state drive. It retails for $2,799 (R21,426.27) in the United States, and AnandTech has already reviewed the device.

Following the announcement that the Blade will not be available in Europe, MyGaming sent though some questions to our local Razer liaison to find out whether the device will make it to South African shores.

Our local Razer liaison contacted Razer PR in Germany with the questions, to which the reply “never” was forthcoming.

Our guy then asked “As in never?” to which the Razer spokesperson replied, “As in never.”

We did contact Razer for more comment on the matter, but they did not reply by the time of publication.

So there you have it folks, us South Africans will have to sit back and watch PC gaming die out with no hope of a saviour coming any time soon.

If that thought depresses you, never fear, razor blades are thankfully in abundant supply.

@kyle shirley – http://facebook.com/RazerSouthAfrica is giving away R 20 000 worth of stock to local gamers from 1st of April – July. That’s way more than any other gaming peripheral manufacturer is doing.

Razer EU e-mailed me this morning with an update “The availability from Razer Blade coming to South Africa/EU, changed from “Never” to “working on it” 29/03/2012.

If you have any enquiries, just pop me a PM on facebook.
