PC Resident Evil will arrive this year

Capcom, the developer behind Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV and the yet to be released Bionic Commando recently spoke about the PC versions of all three games.

Resident Evil 5 will arrive “later this year”, while the PC version of Street Fighter IV and Bionic Commando willbe unveiled in July. All three of the games will be released in traditional retail format, as well as be distributed digitally.

Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 were both released on Xbox 360 and PS3 earlier this year, and were both met with a relatively warm reception. Bionic Commando is set for console release on May 19.
It remains to be seen how well the PC ports will perform. Capcom announced a number of unique features that will be included in the PC versions of each game.

Bionic Commando

As is expected from a PC port, Bionic Commando for PC will feature higher resolutions than its console counterparts, remappable controls which will include mouse and keyboard support, and full support for both DX 9 and DX 10. It will also support online multiplayer.

Street Fighter IV

Along with support for higher resolutions, the PC version of the popular arcade fighter will feature three new shaders which are said to alter the look of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The new shaders; “Watercolour”, “Posterization” and “Sumi-e ink” are based on three of the “artistic” trailers that were released in 2008. It will also support online multiplayer.

Resident Evil 5

Higher resolutions and online co-op play should make for a worthwhile PC adaptation of the survival horror. What is possibly more exciting is the inclusion of support for Nvidia’s new GeForce 3D Vision technology, which allows players to wear special glasses that render the game in 3D.

There has been no mention on whether the RE5 PC port will include keyboard and mouse support. Let’s hope it does, as the lack thereof in the PC port of RE4 was the source of many complaints targeted at the game.
