Just when you thought Mass Effect 3 was finally finished, it turns out there’s more DLC in the works. Just kidding, nobody thought Mass Effect 3 was actually finished, and fans over on the BioWare Social Network have already found evidence of the next expansion hidden in the files of the Extended Cut DLC, released yesterday.
SPOILERS AHEAD, COMMANDER!
According to the data extracted, the DLC features a rogue Reaper named Leviathan. Partial scripts reveal that Shepard is dispatched to rescue a scientist at a Reaper-indoctrinated mining facility, under the control of the defector. As a result of the mission, the Reaper may then apparently be recruited to join Shepard as a war asset in the final assault against the other Reapers. Turns out you just have to ask them nicely or something.
It’s not the first time Leviathan has been named in the series. In the first game, a planet scans reveals the “Leviathan of Dis“, a seemingly derelict, genetically-engineered starship. In Mass Effect 3, the Batarian Balak – assuming he survived the events of the Mass Effect 2 DLC, Bring Down the Sky – suggests that Leviathan is a Reaper, and that the Batarians had inadvertently reactivated it.
No further information has been confirmed, but last night, Mass Effect producer Mike Gamble teased “much more” DLC on Twitter.
