A rather refreshing sale is currently taking place – Wolfire Games is driving the Humble Indie Bumble sale, in which five top-notch indie games are available for purchase at any price the buyer sees fit. The five games are: World of Goo; Aquaria; Gish; Lugaru HD; and Penumbra Overture.
As an added incentive (to perhaps spend more) a portion of the proceeds is donated to charity. The percentage of the payment which goes to charity and developers can be customised, up to 100% either way.
There are two charities on the receiving end, the first being Child’s Play, which donates toys, books, games, and so on to various children’s hospitals around the world.
The second is the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an American NPO that strives to maintain free and open telecommunication standards by engaging in the policy making process, raise public awareness about civil liberties in relation to electronic communication, and support new technologies as they develop – just a few examples of the areas in which they contribute.
If these charities seem a bit far removed from South Africa, you can always send all the money to the developers for their hard work and dedication in bringing us these great games.
The payment methods may seem a little irksome at first, requiring a PayPal, Amazon or Google Checkout account. This probably makes sense though, since Wolfire Games is primarily a developer and not a digital distributor.
If you’ve been looking for an excuse to pick up any of these great indie titles, there is currently none better.
