Star Wars: The Old Republic EA’s most expensive game ever

27 May 2010

In a rather surprising piece of news, it has been revealed that EA has spent more money on the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic than it has on any other game, ever.

“It is the largest R&D project EA has ever undertaken in terms of total dollars that we expect to spend bringing the title to market,” said chief financial officer Eric Brown at Janney Capital Markets’ 2010 Consumer Conference.

He went on to say that the game will not be released before March 2011.

The Old Republic is a PC exclusive MMORG that is being developed by RPG legends Bioware. This just illustrates that the PC as a gaming platform is still very much alive and kicking, largely thanks to subscription based MMOs.

StarWars is easily one of the most famous pieces of fiction in the western world, and the MMO holds enormous potential.
