Torchlight 2 will be released in Northern Hemisphere Spring 2011, so our Autumn then. While the first game was released exclusively for PC via digital download, Runic did not specify platforms for the sequel, although it did state that the game would be released exclusively as a digital download at first.
While Torchlight was largely a dungeon-crawler, Torchlight 2 promises more overland environments, and will feature dynamic weather effects, as well as day-night cycles and “random events”.
One of the biggest criticisms of Torchlight was that it did not feature multiplayer. Runic has promised to include multiplayer support in the sequel, with “free peer-to-peer matchmaking” as well as LAN functionality. The peer-to-peer matchmaking will match players up according to their skill level.
An editor is also promised in the form of “TorchEd”, which should add depth to the game’s modding potential. Players will be able to customize their character’s appearance, and choose between a male or female.
