World of Warcraft patch 4.0.1 prepares for Cataclysm

12 October 2010

Blizzard has announced that it will release a WoW patch this week that will update class mechanics and overhaul the talent tree in preparation for the next expansion, Cataclysm, which is due for release on December 7.

Notably, the talent tree system will change from a 71-point system to a 41-point system. Players will only be able to spend points in a single talent tree until they have spent 31 points. The Glyphs system is also being overhauled.

Further big tweaks are set to change things up, for example, hunters with no longer require ammo to use ranged weapons, and Warlocks are losing soul shards.

Eye-candy fans will also be able to enjoy Cataclysm’s shiny new water graphics engine.

You can check out the full patch notes for a detailed look at the massive number of changes that are coming with this patch. The patch is expected to be live within the next 24 hours.
