Diablo III gets Demon Hunter, beta

25 October 2010

Hot from BlizzCon 2010, the latest – and final – Diablo III class reveal is the Demon Hunter. Or, more properly, Huntress. Now you’re interested.

She’s a sort of combo ranged rogue-spellcaster, and – of course – she’s packing dual-crossbows. Because two crossbows is better than one crossbow. No confirmation yet whether she gets an upgrade to shoot more crossbows from each crossbow, although that would obviously be all kinds of awesome. The Demon Hunter joins the Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, and Witch Doctor on Diablo III’s hero roster.

Game director Jay Wilson announced that the game will go into a beta before release, but did not announce when either of those things would actually happen, although he did announce that the game was “way over half-way” finished, as part of Blizzard’s company policy to announce and not announce announcements to maintain maximum hype. And before you make a mess all over your keyboard, it’s going to be a closed beta, until they announce otherwise.

Wilson also confirmed there won’t be any official mod support when the game launches, which may or may not have anything to do with Blizzard suing StarCraft 2 modders, but probably does. So sorry, you’ll have to actually find all those set pieces this time.
